Now if I had baby-infested armour at my command, the teachers would do their attendance correctly
Gah. I don't have many bad days at work -- I like my job -- but I definitely had one, today.
One teacher managed to make 65 errors on a single page of a single week's attendance -- which means she entered every bit of information for every student and herself incorrectly for a week, excepting her initials. Actually, I'm a little surprised she got her initials right.
She's very nice, but I think Oliver Sachs could get a book out of her math skills and memory.
In better news, I'm back up to a steady 2000 words a day again, and the novel is coming together better-structured. I'm worried about giving daily progress reports after having disappointed people last time.
Plus, I got to hear
jenjoou coin the term "baby-infested armour" last night. Context available upon request.

It doesn't even have to be the original context. Any reasonably creative rationalization will do. ^_^

Suffice to say that the demonic spirits with whom all Faustian deals are made in the series are represented as grinning, wide-eyed shadow-babies. I'm not sure if that's to heighten the horror through incongruity, or because they're always trying to be born in living bodies in our world.
A lot of the movie was stolen from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and when the ubiquitous Nazi researcher came through the gate where these things reside, she let them all out. They inhabited suits of armour, and transformed them into her undying army -- hence, "baby-infested armour."
I actually kind of wished I'd stopped with the series, now, and hadn't moved on to the movie :/

I can only hope that the Law of Equivalent Exchanges applies to horrible fanfic as well. In that case, in order to bring something that painfully bad into existence, someone has to sacrifice something of equal value -- I think chucking the author and her unused spell-checker into a large hungry void should do nicely.
