So, gaming update for my players.

I think [livejournal.com profile] montrealais will be our rogue. [livejournal.com profile] melting_penguin had a suggestion for a character that sounded wizardly to me, so I'll see. I think I can convince [livejournal.com profile] em_fish to be our cleric. And it sounds like [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste is interested in being the big brutish fighter :)

If that's settled (and none of these are confirmed), then we'd have the four big necessities: magic, muscle, healing, and rogue skills, and that's the minimum. Thus, anyone else entering can pretty much choose as suits them.

Other issues:

Time: I was thinking Sunday at noon or 1pm, but I wanted to check if that suited people here...?

New Player: Anyone have objections to [livejournal.com profile] metawidget joining up? The adventures does call for a large number of players, and we're frequently short.

The future: Our last campaign failed because it was too long, too complex, and too much for a DM with no time. But there's nothing wrong, per se, with a semi-permanent gaming group. Maybe if we did away with the long story arcs, rotated DMs (and gaming systems, if [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste wants to do Hidden Armies), we could actually keep to something semi-regular, and hold on to these characters awhile.

It'd also give me a chance to play, something I miss doing.

Yeah, I'd love to do something with Unknown Armies. Sometime next week or the week after, I should have time to pull something together (around essays and whatnot).

As an aside, too - one of the things that made it difficult for me to consistantly make it was that the games were every weekend. Since I like to go places and see people, and that happens during weekends, 'every weekend' is a bit much in terms of time commitments. Even if the game rocks. Something to think about, or whatnot.

Yeah, I think time constraints will be a bit much for every week.

Don't worry about rushing for Unknown Armies. This module will take some weeks, and if we're going every second week, it'll be hard enough to keep track of where we are. I was thinking we'd switch after modules of each game, as opposed to after single sessions.

Auugh, noooooo, blurgh, metawidget? I HATE metawidget! Metawidget gets stuck between my teeth and keeps me up at night and gave me a rash in the crook of my elbow!

...just kidding! Who is metawidget again? I am sure I will love him.

[livejournal.com profile] metawidget is a great guy whose user info speaks more eloquently for himself than I ever could ^_^

He's expressed interest in joining. I realize we have a burgeoning (and bludgeoning!) group, but I think we could squeeze one more in.

.....or her.

By the way, consider me sold on being a cleric. I've been practicing my Hippie-voice: "So like, I am always having these weird dreams about the future. You know, like when you have a dream on Sunday about cereal and then on Thursday, for breakfast you have cereal?"

Looking for a deity on Wikipedia is fun, I was attracted to Eldath but that would sadly make me completely useless when it came time to lay on the smackdown.

PS sorry for spamming.

True -- Eldath complicates things. You'd have to take the "subdual substitution" feat (which does non-lethal damage to living creatures with no attack penalty). It says in the Forgotten Realms handbook that her favoured weapon is the net.

If you're shopping around for Neutral Good deities, might I suggest Lathander (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lathander)? He's a really cool god. So far, he has very few female clerics, though that has just begun to change :)

For the crunchy granola type, you might also be interested in Mielikki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mielikki_%28Forgotten_Realms%29), Queen of the Forest :)

*gives you a dirty look for merely suggesting that a second post in a row from you is not welcome*

Ok so I have it narrowed down to.....

Mielikki or Chauntea. Do you have a preference?

Definitely Chauntea. She was among my favourites, when I played Forgotten Realms an age (and 2 editions of D&D) ago. I can't believe I'd forgotten about her.

For your domains, you could pick any two of the following (domains are the kind of spells you specialize in, and give you special abilities besides). Don't worry about the necessary spells -- whichever combination you choose, you'll have all the basics like healing magic and food/water creation that the party needs.

All of these domains include spells no other Cleric can have:

Animal: Communicating with and protecting oneself against all non-sentient fauna. Gives you the power to draw animal companions, and special knowledge of nature.

Earth: Spells that allow you to shape and control soil, stone, and metal. Gives you the power to drive off/destroy air elementals, and control earth elemental creatures.

Good: Spells conncted to moral concept of good, including protection from evil and holy magicks. The only additional power is that these kinds of magic become more powerful in your hands.

Plant: Gives you power over plant life. You can control plant-creatures, and like for animal, you'd have a special power over nature.

Protection: Powerful defensive magicks. Once per day, you can give someone a one-time ward that's a major boost to their next saving throw. If unused, it dissipates in 1 hour.

Renewal Life-giving magicks. Once per day, if an attack deals you a fatal wound without instantly killing you, your deity will restore you.

Meilikki has Animal, Plant, Good, and something called Travel (travelling, flying, teleporting magicks -- allows you a power called freedom of movement every day that lets you operate in spite of magical methods of slowing or stopping you (like paralysis spells, or magic webs, etc).

Meilikki is a less-powerful deity, hence the smaller selection.

Although I realize now that a priest of Lathander Morninglord might have a problem in a party with a necromancer. You and Steve would be at one another's throats instantly 0_o

Next question -- does he want to be a clerical necromancer of a dark god (which means less flashy spells, but the power to create more powerful undead), or a wizard necromancer (flashier spells, inability to create anything more than skeletons and zombies).

Then comes the old familiar question -- and for a necromancer, there are some pretty disturbing options when it comes to familiars...

Let me know.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, but we're pretty full for players right now.

Still, we'll see. There are two who may or may not be able to make these sessions, if they can't, I don't see why you couldn't.
