Jun. 28th, 2005 02:24 pmGad. They've said they'll allow for 8 hours of debate on same-sex marriage today. Depending on how that's interpreted, that could mean anywhere from 6pm to 10pm or later.
However, the vote will be today.
A liberal member quit the cabinet rather than vote in favour. One of our party is planning to vote against, and I hope our leader, Jack Layton, keeps his promise to toss her out on her ass if she does. I don't care if it means going down to 18 members from 19 -- we don't need her.
After that, it's just a week or two of rubber-stamping. I get a kick out of the fact that it's the Adreinne Clarkson -- wife of my favourite philosopher John Ralston Saul -- whose signature will make this into a law.
