Two more weeks until we're out of this pit ^_^

I'll be so glad to be moving from our lifeless brick tenement practically below the highway in Canada's most famous slum, to our new apartment near the river in artsy, student-filled Verdun.

But the question: Where do I find boxes? I've done most of my packing already, but I need at least 10 good-sized boxes, maybe more, to handle what's left of my possessions :/

Try the grocery store.

Good luck! Moving is so liberating.

Thank you ^_^

I considered the grocery store -- in Montreal, though, grocery stores hold on to their boxes to use for deliveries.

I considered getting my groceries delivered so I could accumulate boxes, but it seems everyone else has had the same idea, and many deliveries are coming in paper bags now because of a shortage of boxes.

(Most leases in this city come up on the same day, so June is a box-feeding-frenzy here)

You must be thrilled to be moving. I can't wait to have my own place. ^_^

I'm hitting Ray up for more boxes. I'm sure if you asked, he'd put some aside for you too. He's got some twice the size of the ones he's been giving me.

I am thrilled.

Thanks for the advice, but are you sure you don't mind me poaching on your turf...?

If you can get a car or if you can help me carry them I can get some big ones from Canadian Tire. Just let me know if you want me to save you some.

I'd be happy to carry them. What's your work schedule like and which Canadian Tire do you work at...?

Obviously, not a Canadian Tire near by. I work on the one at the corner of Bellechasse and St-Laurent, between Rosemont and Baubien metro stations. I usually work from 8 to 5 every week day.

Hmmm. I think I will take you up on the offer, but probably won't be able to go to that area at 5pm until Tuesday. Is that okay?

Tuesday will be fine. I'll make sure to save the bigger boxes during that day.

University computer labs and the library. They will have boxes upon boxes that originally held 10 reams of printer paper apiece. Good for packing things like books and paperwork: Large enough to hold a good amount, but not so large they can't be lifted after they're full. Also, the cardboard is strong enough that it won't buckle if it's full of shifty-jangly things, like silverware or CD cases, that keep knocking around inside.

Or you could just do what I did, which was take the sturdier boxes to your new home, upend them on the floor, take them back to your old home, and fill them up again.

I hadn't considered those places.

I did have the idea of re-using boxes, but only as a last resort. We're trying to get this move done is as short a time as possible.

One of the perks of my otherwise rather pleasantly boring computer lab job is that I get first dibs on moving boxes at the end of the semester. XD It's an unwritten rule, but used a lot.

That's a nice perk.

Do you move every semester...?

I have tried desperately to not move every semester so naturally the answer is: yes, invariably I need to move every semester. Every time I sign up for a dorm that was 12-month year-round housing the year before, it is not the year I'm in it. There were a couple of years I was in an apartment instead of on campus, and instead of having to move dorms, I just had to pack a month of stuff up to visit my parents two hours away, over the break.

This time around they made me move from my school-year dorm into a "summer downtime" dorm, and two weeks later, they let me move into my summer dorm. The day before training for my job started. It was so fun that if I ever meet the person responsible for this bit of scheduling, I will probably pour him or her a great tall frosty glass of Ex-Lax in thanks.

You'll look like a total lush, but boxes from the SAQ (especially those made for 12 bottles of wine/booze) are a decent size - big enough to fit stuff, small enough to still be able to lift after. *shrugs* That's what I used when I moved TO Montreal, anyways.

I'd considered an SAQ, but I haven't passed one recently. It astonishes me they aren't on every corner in St-Henri!

Once you've moved... if the boxes you're using are in re-usable condition, and you're not re-using them, would you mind me taking them off your hands?

*innocent look*

We've got boxes. Steve started bringing them home when it looked like we were moving, but as that does not seem to be an issue just yet... just let me know how many and when to bring them to you.

Thank you. You're an angel ^_^

Could you bring some by D&D this weekend...? I'm happy to take as many as you're willing to bring :)

No problem what-so-ever! But...considering that 2 of the other players can't make it, are we still playing?

I'm torn -- but ultimately I don't think we can have the game. I might go ahead missing two players (it's been forever, and I really want to play), but [livejournal.com profile] em_fish is crucial for the next part, so I don't think we can play without her :/

Might be nice to get together, still.

I haven't been to the tam-tams in years.

I have plans for after-5 on Sunday, but anytime before then is great ^_^
