Jun. 20th, 2006 02:11 pmSo it's been a quiet day. Got a little editing done -- I may hit the one-quarter mark today -- and some packing done. The big move is a week from tomorrow.
We've been watching a sweet and silly anime called Princess Princess. It's about three 16-year-old boys at an all-boys school who are bribed by the student council into dressing up as girls because the lack of girls is a serious drain on morale.
Sometimes, when watching an anime, I try to picture what it would look like if done on North American TV. With this one, it's just not coming. I don't think US cartoons have had any drag queens since Bugs Bunny hung up his wedding dress.
Practical things: it looks like all or most of us can play D&D this weekend, but the question is where? Matt doesn't want to have it here because our appartment is nothing but a giant mass of boxes right now.
Any ideas?

Date: 2006-06-21 05:16 pm (UTC)I mean, remember, the US is the country where advertisers threatened to pull out if there was a same-sex kiss on a show in the late 1990s (Melrose Place). Around the same time, Japan had a same-sex kiss in the opening credits of an anime aimed at a younger crowd (Magic-Users' Club).
Granted there have been some advances in American television. But I can't imagine a sitcom about drag hitting the American airwaves any time soon.

Date: 2006-06-20 08:13 pm (UTC)I'll soon tell about Ouran Host Club in my journal, that's the one that seems to be getting popular along with Princess Princess among the fangirls these days. It's rather funny too :)
Is it maybe a possibility to take it to some kind of café? Maybe outside? Since it seems to be really warm over there too... you could just have a D&D picknick, too.
Well or maybe not >_>;

Date: 2006-06-21 05:20 pm (UTC)At first it wasn't very shounen-ai-ish, but it's gradually getting more and more that way (I've only seen the first 7 of 12).
It was a choice between Ouran Host Club and Princess Princess. I'll get to Ouran someday, too :)
I'd feel odd at a café, but it wouldn't be so bad out in nature. I'm hoping to have D&D by the river after we move :)
