Life

So I have about 15 pages to edit left on my novel, and I'm doing 10-20 a day. I've been given a lot more hours at work, so I can pay bills and actually afford a few luxuries. I'm about a week ahead on school. Looking forward to seeing friends tonight, and to Mabon this weekend.

Politics

The Harperites tried to fire a government scientist for refusing to use their catchphrase bullcrap. Not surprising, since they seem to be under the mistaken impression that the government is their private corporation.

On the subject of things that make me mad, American Airlines threatened to turn a plane around if a gay couple on it didn't stop kissing. They claimed this is policy for everyone, but apparently they neglected to mention this retroactive fact to the people who work in customer service.

And I love Rick Mercer:

"I remember exactly where I was the moment I heard Bob Rae wanted to be leader of the Liberal party. Its one of those seared in sense memory thingies, like remembering where you were when the Challenger blew up or you heard Stockwell Day was straight."

I don't know how you can stay ahead in school. I'm thrilled when i'm just up to date.

I stay ahead because a) I only have one class, and b) it's the easiest class I've ever had at the master's level.

(I'm doing between one-third and one-sixth the reading I've done for other courses, and the final project is tiny.)

Usually I'm very far behind by week 3.

We're looking forward to see you too. ^_^

I can't even think of anything to say about American Airlines, it's too absurd and infuriating for words. I feel like making out on one of their planes to prove that they don't apply their policy to everyone and they're just homophobic pricks.... but then I'd have to give them my money and I don't want to.

Yeah, another good reason not to buy my airline tickets from them, over and above the fact that they're usually the first- or second-most expensive when I check fares...

It was fun last night. I guess we'll probably have our next session of Everybody Loves Claus next Thursday...?

Yes, Thursday. Then we get to find out if anyone else wants Claus, Alex maybe or Delphine while we're at it. ;)

To be fair though this is probably an occupational hazard that comes with being a Harvard professor .And this alone isn’t fatal; in fact it’s pretty common actually. Our current Prime Minister also thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room – although when you consider the type of room Harper usually finds himself in, you can hardly blame him. When Harper exits a caucus meeting it’s not entirely clear if the title “smartest guy in the room” immediately shifts to his parliamentary secretary or the jade plant.

LOL

I vote for the plant.

I considered quoting that bit, but my post was already a little long.

My vote, of course, goes to the jade plant.

Stockwell Day is a person? I thought he was a sock puppet, cleverly devised from cotton and silly putty and magically brought to life by the tears of blond-haired, blue-eyed patriotic virgins - a sort of Frosty the Snowman for the rightwing set. How disappointing...

That would complement my theory that Harper was summoned into this world by sacrificing a black goat at a crossroads at midnight.

(I wonder when Stockwell -- as Minister of Public Security -- is going to unveil his plan for protecting us from dinosaurs. After all, he's said that dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time, maybe he thinks there's a few around.)
