A Happy Samhain to those who celebrate it. Now the wheel of the Pagan New Year begins another turn.

I saw [livejournal.com profile] terren_divided last Saturday for the first time in years, which was great. and last night, I spent Samhain dining out with [livejournal.com profile] em_fish, [livejournal.com profile] jenjoou, [livejournal.com profile] maidenofirisa, [livejournal.com profile] montrealais, [livejournal.com profile] rougemacabre, and her husband.

Otherwise, it's been quiet. I've been writing. I spent the morningworking on an essay about how Twelfth Night is Shakespeare's "fuck you" to the Puritans (I didn't phrase it like that, naturally).

In other news, I'm still waiting for my results back for my Comprehensive Exams -- the last serious barrier to my Master's degree. They're being marked by a woman named Bina, whose classes I've been avoiding because she has the reputation of being the school Arch-Postmodernist. Her course descriptions sound like they were all cribbed from Foucault.

Apparently, she'd so late because she's writing a grant proposal. And here I thought she'd just decided marking essays was "bourgeois".

I'm glad I did, too. I was in a foul mood when I came through the door, but five minutes of conversation with you people could calm anyone ^_^

Well, I'm sure there's a segment of the population that finds us quite horrifying. But I wouldn't want to hang out with them anyways. ;)

I thought Samhain wasn't for another week. *confused* Oh, well. Happy heathen festival anyway! May your winter be crystalline and bright, and may whatever you're officially doing for Samhain not invite in any drunken frat boy ghosts looking for a kegger to crash. I don't suggest Ouija boards under any circumstances, but I particularly do not suggest one on Annual Ghost Party Night. ^^; Have a small fire and contemplate hibernation, or some such.

Most Wiccans celebrate Samhain on October 31, though a small number celebrate it on th first full moon after/closest to that day.

"...drunken frat boy ghosts looking for a kegger to crash..."

That sounds like a really bad porn plot :p

I suppose it does, although I tend to think of frat boys more as annoyances than targets. ^^;; I am fond of the tall, gangly, dorky type, myself, which is underrepresented in fraternities down here. I've been watching Doctor Who again in my off hours, and I could happily fasten myself to David Tennat for quite some time...

In general, though, that is why I don't like Ouija boards. The things hanging around wanting to respond when you ask if anyone's out there are usually the things you wouldn't want to talk to in the first place. It's kind of like putting up flyers for a party instead of calling your friends to invite them -- you get a lot of unwanted guests, some of whom are apt to enjoy smashing furniture.

Thank you ^_^

(By the way, I tried to respond to your latest entry on your blog, but it wouldn't let me post.)

I know, something is very wrong with that blog... I'm thinking of going back to LJ unless I'm feeling particularly showy... :)

That'd be great ^_^

(Though I'm so bad at checking my f-list I might not notice for weeks if you start back up.)

Meanwhile, you haven't called me recently on Skype -- should I be trying to call you...?
