montrealais has linked on his livejournal, Stephen Harper got a little more evil today. This is what the Reform-CCRAP Alliance Party of Conservatoria gets for recruiting candidates by sacrificing a black goat at crossroads on new moons.
What can you say about a man so evil, he's prepared to pick away at the divisions in Canadian society, to start a war between queer people and members of ethnic minorities to further his own political agenda? And if he succeeds, what's going to happen to members of ethnic minorities who are queer?
And what can be said for anyone who votes for him, for whatever motive? I've decided I can have no respect for such a person, whatever their excuse.
For the social conservatives, they don't get a pass because their bigotry is rooted in religion -- it's time we stopped tiptoeing around the obvious, that right-wing, anti-gay fundamentalist Christians are really in the same moral category as Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan. They'd burn crosses on our lawns if they thought they could get away with it, and fundamentalist Christianity has had 2000 years to show what it does to us when it has a stranglehold on power. It wasn't pretty. The fact that they're a little more civil about their beliefs now has more to do with PR than with genuine moral sentiment.
And as for the fiscal conservatives who vote for the Reform/CCRAP/Alliance/CPC/Tory/Whatever-they-are-this-week, let me just say that I don't give a damn if you're only voting for them because you "like their fiscal policies" on taxation and spending. If you're going to sacrifice your principles -- and your friends and family -- for a little bit of cash (and starve hospitals and schools at the same time), you are a disgusting individual.
