Final count of the re-write: 122,024 words and 231 pages.

I feel like I've been cranky and irritable with everyone and everything the last 24 hours that didn't directly have something to do with my novel. My world today has been solipsist, and I was seriously tempted to call in sick to work rather than split my writing day in two. I got even more frustrated when I got home and didn't feel any creative for some hours afterward.

I hope to quickly edit this version, then have it printed by this time next week.

Meanwhile, I'm reading Moby Dick. I'm not that far into it, yet, and the rest of Melville's stuff has hardly been page-turning material -- Bartleby the Scrivener could have done with a few car-chases, maybe a battle with a dragon -- but I'm enjoying it so far.

I forced my mother to read me Moby Dick as a child. Every time we would finish one book, I'd bring her bloody Moby Dick to read me. Finally, after a year or so, I wore her down and she agreed to read it to me, despite assuring me I would be thoroughly bored. I was convinced anything about the sea and a big whale had to be exciting.

I remember when we reached the chapter about the whale's eye, my mother sighed, "Look, this chapter is really boring. Can we just skip it?" But no, I insisted whale's eyes were indeed interesting enough to go on about for a chapter.

The sad thing was, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. My poor mother though. Being tortured by a seven year old and Herman Melville. :P

So shall I be allowed to see this version of your novel?

I can see that.

There's a vaguely manga-like quality to it, isn't there? And not just the vague homoeroticism, either :p

As for the novel, I was hoping you guys would all get to see the first version, but after Emma dn Matt got finished with their copies, I decided there were very serious problems with it, and I wanted the chance to work on it in BC. Hopefully, there will be time for you to see it this time.

I think my Grisham-esque espionage idea was a good one.....

It doesn't fit with Bartleby's personality. If there was a car chase, he'd probably be in the passenger's seat, reading.
