First off, Happy Solstice to those who celebrate it, and happy first-day-of-summer otherwise ^_^

I updated my other journal, again history and still on France (the nobles this time).

I've been reading a lot of cool history, mostly about New France. A lot of the history is funny -- these people would sue each other for anything, and it's often the same people in court over and over again -- but some of it is disturbing.

I'm not just talking about the punishments -- torture and mutilation were common in those days -- but also the crimes. Out in this colony of mostly-wilderness, there were murders and rapes being commited with shocking frequency, especially considering the tiny population.

It's also hard to believe that there was an entire feudal system of lords and peasants here in Quebec once, but a record of Quebec's aristocratic families still exists.

Other than that, things are quiet -- I've been slowly getting ahead on my writing, though I'm way behind schedule. I'm not even one-third of the way.
