Oct. 27th, 2007 08:32 amI've finished all but the final phase of my novel, now -- the quick edit, where I read through it one last time at a standard readerly pace.
I missed a few other deadlines, and I'm a single day behind of where I thought I'd be, but I think I'll be able now to make my deadline of next Wednesday for finishing the novel.
My first line of editors --
montrealais,
em_fish, and
jenjoou, ought to consider that a heads up that they'd be getting copies of it this week.
(Yeah, I know -- not like any of you don't have enough to do. On top of it all, I was hoping to get them back in a month-and-a-half's time, mid-December, to take with me to BC and do one last edit before I start sending it out in January.)
I'm really excited to be at this phase. Those who've known me a long time will probably not be too excited, because I worked on a previous novel for five years, then scrapped it, then rewrote this one after I read the criticisms.
But I really do feel I've passed a boundary. The first novel never got anywhere near this point, never even got to publishable. There are still structural/dialogue/tone problems with this second one, but nothing I think that'll necessitate a complete re-write.
In other news, LJ is not notifying me about responses to my posts and comments. I've discovered a number of these by accident. If I've missed anything important, please let me know.
