Jun. 16th, 2008 06:05 pmI'd like to extend a congratulations to California, where same-sex marriage becomes legal at 5:01 PM, pacific daylight time -- a little more than two hours from now.
And Norway also got same-sex marriage. Kudos to them as well -- we can no longer forget Norway, in spite of its lack of lions.
Still, I wonder what's up with slackers in Sweden? I mean, they gave us IKEA and ABBA, and they let Norway beat them to same-sex marriage? Pitiful.
In other news, I need to update my icon again.

Date: 2008-06-18 01:23 pm (UTC)I'd settle for seeing this entire map (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/53/World_homosexuality_laws.svg) going at least pale green if not dark in my life time.
In the industrialized west, though, it may happen. When it was just three or four jurisdictions, it could be dismissed as ordinary cultural differences between countries.
I think it's becoming increasingly obvious to people, though, that any country that doesn't legalize same-sex marriage soon is going to embarrass their descendants by putting their nation on the bottom of a future Wikipedia-article list on which countries legalized first and last. Sort of how it is with this list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_women%27s_suffrage).
