Just thought I'd wish a Happy Pride to anyone here who's celebrating it in Montreal -- pretty much everywhere else has had their parade by now. Although I understand there's at least one Pride event in Ontario in September, thus violating the ancient dictum of our forefairies, "Pride goeth before the fall."

I hope it's a good one.

The community day was quite nice yesterday as well. I'm really glad the new organization has taken over for Divers/Cité.

I'll be marching with the NDP, as always ^_^

Pride stuff doesn't usually happen here until school starts again. Otherwise they'd get a lousy turnout. We townies are pretty apathetic.

Plus if they hold it on campus, which they generally do, they get to set up shop outside the bookstore. Right next to "Louie", who is a larger-than-life bronze statue of a shirtless lumberjack in very tight jeans. It makes quite a statement. ^_^

How much does the population change when school starts? I know in some cities, it pretty much doubles.

The population of Flagstaff is usually given as 50K, and I know that the university's full- or nearly-full-time student population is around 25K these days. Most of them live on campus, so town is fairly deserted over the summer. There are also essentially two sections of town -- the part down by campus, and the part full of $500K condos up to the northeast -- and the two try never to meet if they can possibly help it. So down at our end of town, it's pretty well empty from mid-May to mid-August, when it abruptly becomes a clusterfuck of freshcritters who have no idea where they're going and cannot find McConnell Hall even though the first Flagstaff exit on the highway coming up from Phoenix is conveniently called McConnell Drive, and it's a one-way street that basically dead-ends at the dorm parking lot.

There is a reason we skipped town for a concert on move-in weekend.

Happy Pride!

I'll be sitting at home today nursing my cold (as I couldn't yesterday) but I hope you have fun. ^_^

It was great. But there'll always be next year.

Y'know, unless Harper has us rounded up and put into camps or something.

I usually go to it, but I forgot about the parade this year - I was on my way to work at the library and I did notice that there seemed to be a lot of Marilyn Monroes walking around, but for some reason I didn't put two and two together until someone at work mentioned the parade.

In the last 14 years, I've only missed the parade once, and it was when I was in Vancouver. So I've never seen Vancouver's parade.
