Last Days...
Jan. 23rd, 2006 12:18 pmWell, today's the election. Nothing much more to say, except, obviously, go and vote. And be very careful about posting results between the closing of the polls, and 10pm Eastern Time.
Every projection I've seen says Harper can't win a majority. He has massive support, but it's too concentrated in one part of the country (the West + parts of Ontario). We may be looking at a one-third Conservative parliament, maybe as high as two-fifths, but not one-half.
That'll mean six months (at least) of paralysis, but at least it'll mean Harper can't do much. In the meantime, we can do everything we can to educate people about Harper's agenda. We've done all we can for this election.
Meanwhile, some levity, for people who are who are looking for a distraction while they wait for the polls to close.

- Artist's interpretation of what Parliament Hill will look like under Stephen "Sauron" Harper
- VGCats take on Canadian history
- And as if to prove that it is not without a sense of humour, Elections Canada has (under "Frequently Asked Questions," subsection "Registration and Voting") a response to the question "Am I allowed to eat a ballot?".
The answer is it is highly illegal to eat a ballot, and punishable (according to the table of offences) by either a $5000 fine, or up to five years imprisonment, or both. Presumably, "both" is for worst offenders -- maybe people who put ketchup on it first. - If all else failures, if desperate for distraction after voting and while waiting for the results, there is always The Random Kitten Generator!
