Sugar, sugar, sugar!!!
Mar. 19th, 2005 07:32 pmOkay, so I spent the day at the Cabane à Sucre with many fellow SDMBers, and now I'm so full of sugar, I'm bouncing off the walls.
Of course, I'll crash before I have to skim five books tomorrow.
I finished The Divine Ryans today. Fantastic book. It's sole flaw is that this guy tends to take Freud a little too seriously (writers and English critics are the only ones left who think of Freud as a serious thinker; I understand that among psychologists, Freud is mostly a joke told at cocktail parties), though he does manage to mine Freud to some wonderful comic effect.
And that's it's only flaw. Otherwise, a fantastic book -- sort of an antidote to The Wonder Years, with an older narrator talking about growing up in his hilariously fucked-up family in 1960s Newfoundland.
Now, it's back to Byron. I'm still only halfway through Don Juan.
