At long last, I have the first of my sections on early gay poets on my blog. This is the first of a few articles, and deals with two poets who might have been gay. There won't be any might in the next article, which'll deal with Elsa Gidlow.

Wow, I'm a real post-bunny this week. Three posts in three days. I'm still not on speaking terms with FaceBook, however.

I'm learning a lot about formating cover letters and manuscripts - I bought a book on the subject put out by editors and publishers on what they want to see and not see. A lot of the information seems slanted toward working through an agent and houses that only accept solicited manuscripts, but I think it's adaptable.

But my chosen publishing house also wants a "marketing analysis," presumably how to sell it. None of my references are any help. I might just ask the salespeople at work.

Good luck with your writing, I hope you figure out the marketing analysis (sounds complicated).

Thank you! And I'm hoping it's les complicated than it sounds.

Good luck with that. That's a good thing for me to know in case I need a marketing analysis someday. Keep us filled in on the details of that.

And also, I misread "early gay poets" as "earl grey poets". I was very confused and curious about these tea-specialty poets, until I realised that I needed more coffee in my system. ;)

You could have it both ways, since Thomas Grey probably had Horace Walpole for a lover, so he was both a Grey and gay poet.

I have some books that cover marketing analysis if you want to borrow any of them. I could also give you some generel info if you are interested.

I would be very interested. When and where could I get them from you...?

Sorry for the late reply, I work from 12 to 8 every week day so whenever you're available around those times. I can also bring them to you anytime during the weekend.

I could arrange to be there any night, and probably would anyway. But I'd feel bad if you were doing me a favour and had to make an extra trip. Maybe I should go to pick them up...?

I honestly don't mind bringing them to your place. It is easier for me to go to your place than for you to come to mine. Actually, I've lend some Marketing books to one of my coworkers a few days ago and most of them are still at work. I could easily just drop them at your place. (or if you want to meet me somewhere downtown-ish that works too)

I work downtown - I get off at 4:30 every day, and have a flexible lunch hour if you wanted to meet and you were in the area.

I'm near the Bay and Phillip's Square.

I good meet you before work but since I hate leaving earlier, that might not be for the best. If you're at home tomorrow night, I could just bring them then. Making a stop in Verdun isn't that big of a detour for me.

If you're sure it's not too much trouble, I'll make it a point to be home tonight.

Thank you :)

Shouldn't the publisher have a marketing department whose job it is to figure out how to sell your book? Or is this a particularly small publisher?

It's a particularly large publisher. But since there are so many writers and a shrinking base of readers - all my favourite bookstores have turned into cellphone-recharging places - they really want to make us work for it, and are happy to externalize the work.
