"We go to him now..."
May. 23rd, 2005 08:53 pmWell, there's a good possibility the Northwest Territories will have same-sex marriage by the end of the month. I'm sure both same-sex couples living in the arctic are ecstatic.
The same-sex marriage bill is becoming increasingly symbolic, rather than practical. The only three holdouts so far are Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, and Alberta. PEI and Nunavut are ready for it, apparently, but Alberta's going to be brought in kicking and screaming, methinks.
Actually, this post is partially an excuse to show off my new LJ icon -- first animated icon (or image of any kind) I've ever created.
P.S.
em_fish, I didn't notice the reading meme until about 5 seconds ago. I'll get to it tomorrow. Sorry about that.

Date: 2005-05-24 02:56 pm (UTC)I haven't seen it since it went downhill. To me, both This Hour Has 22 Minutes and The Simpsons will always be funny, because I lost television at just the right moment.

Date: 2005-05-24 02:59 pm (UTC)Still, for a lot of Albertans, it's not so much a antigay thing as a turf thing. They don't like the other provinces or the courts telling them what to do.
We should have told them they couldn't have same-sex marriage. Then they would've demanded it.

Date: 2005-05-24 03:06 pm (UTC)With the NWT, about 88% of the country will have same-sex marriage. True, Nunavut won't boost that percentage much, but it'll be great for queer Nunavumiut.
