[livejournal.com profile] jenjoou was right. Kyou Kara Maou develops a plot sometime around the 26th episode. It was quite a shock. I've been liking the cliffhangers, and the serious elements don't come as clumsy as they did. I do hope they return to the romantic comedy at some point, because that's still what they're best at. That is why I turn to shounen ai, of course -- I can get serious and thought-provoking just about anywhere ^_^

Also, I have to know what the writers have been smoking. Their zoology is some of the most disturbing stuff in anime. Carnivorous sand pandas who fall in love with humans? Flesh-eating, bloodthirsty koalas? Insect-winged teddy bears that hatch from larva? I cracked up, though, when the fanged attack-sheep inflated on contact with water.

ETA: Did I say those animals were strange before? I just saw the episode showing the effects of dumplings on killer sheep >_<

In more serious news, the gay marriage bill leaves commitee in two weeks, on June 14. It'll probably be voted on then for its third and last reading -- the final showdown on same-sex marriage. Not that the Conservatives could stop it -- only delay it. And not that a victory means the issue is settled for good -- there's still the notwithstanding clause.

But it would be a moral victory, and it would mean that our elected government has decided we're equal citizens under the law. That counts for something. It's something I've been fighting 12 year for.

Canada.com is reporting that there will even be extra sittings, if required, to ensure the bill is fast-tracked. It's looking good.
