So, I'm finally getting towards the end of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It was already one of the best books I'd ever read, but it keeps getting better. Michael Chabon is brilliant at weaving tiny elements together -- original, intelligent, and able to keep his audience's interest even after 440 pages.

I have a growing pile of my favourite authors stacking up on our coffee table. I still haven't had the chance to finish Saul's The End of Globalisation. Of course, Gravitation is supposed to be out this month, and the sixth Harry Potter comes out in 28 days, 9 hours, and 41 minutes.

The first budget bill passed 3rd reading, so now it goes to the Senate. One down, own budget bill and one marriage bill to go. And the marriage and 2nd budget bill both got through committee, so that's something. Third reading -- the crucial step -- is next for both of them. If they make it past that, they'll survive.

I'm looking forward to Gravitation and Harry Potter too. That and George R.R. Martin's "A Feast For Crows". I love his books and I've been waiting for this one for years. I reread the 3 other books in the series about a month ago to get ready. This is going to be a fun summer. :)

He has a very peculiar way of setting up his narratives. Each chapter is from the pov of a different character (characters get more than one chapter, but never two characters the same chapter). For this reason they're not strictly chronological. Many take place at the same time with similar events seen in a different way or at the same time at different places. I find it very interesting because it captures the various factions vying for power and their intrigues as a narrative from a single perspective couldn't.

It also gives all the characters more depth. It's hard to just hate a character because they did something bad to a character you loved. Eventually you're brought into their minds and come to understand why they did what they did. So there are none of one-dimentional villains I hate so much.

That is a good technique. I've seen that used to very good effect.

Epic political fantasy. I always describe him as "like Robert Jordan... except GOOD."

I've never read Robert Jordan. I have a very close friend who loved his Wheel of Time series so much, though, he had his name legally changed to that of one of the characters.

How about 100% more lions? ;P
Also, you changed your colour theme, if I'm not mistaken. Surprisingly enough it looks rather nice.

100% more lions? Fine, you leave me no choice:

As for the colour scheme, I was forced to. Livejournal seems to be experimenting with its schemes, and jettisoned the one I was using. I played around with various types and colours, but their remaining colour combinations were ugly.

I hit on this desert motif, which isn't too bad. I'll keep it awhile, I think :)

It's my own fault. I brought in a sun-coloured colour-scheme, and all of a sudden, a pride of lions shows up :)

Yah, figures they'd be attracted here :P
Though you might've given them too much fodder by foretelling their win against the fanatical Christians.
