Nov. 14th, 2004 09:53 pmI have a new computer, now, and all my writing files have been saved, thanks to Matt and the effort of his friend.
em_fish's friend also called to help, but by that time we were already loading the files on to my hard drive. It was a virus, as I guessed, and an ancient one at that. The new virus software purged it from documents, but it couldn't do anything for the more advanced programs (video games mostly), and so everything else was flushed.
But I don't care, so long as I have my writing.
Afterward, I figured out where the virus came from.
I'd been using an old CD with images I'd taken from a friend's website years ago -- images I couldn't replace because the site went down after she died. The images themselves were fine, but an application I had on the same disk was viral. With Matt's friend's help, the images were saved, and I'll recopy them as soon as I buy another CD.
Meanwhile, I did a final edit, and sent it off to the CBC Literary Awards. First prize is $6000, and second is $4000. both the winner and the runner up will be in EnRoute magazine, read over CBC, and the first place winner will be translated and read on Radio-Canada.
*crosses fingers*
So, yeah, in all the excitement, I still haven't finished Leacock, and I only have one of my two projects done for Tuesday. I still have two novels to read before then.
