Well, [livejournal.com profile] montrealais is in Spain, and just posted that he made it safely to Madrid. This is good news.

However, his computer decided it couldn't bear to be without him, and after crashing every couple of hours for a week, it finally stopped loading. It won't even load up in safe mode.

This is why I'm posting from a commercial internet place. So if I'm scarce over the next few months, it's not because I'm avoiding people.

Other than that, little to report. My writing continues apace, and I may even have a haiku ready for the CBC Shortest-Imaginable-Story-So-Don't-Even-Think-About-Writing-A-Whole-Paragraph Contest next week. I spent the morning giving English Placement exams to engineers.

I fell off the video game wagon this week, succumbing to an old addiction. But I justify this by telling myself that Alpha Centauri has more intellectual meat than most of my courses, which unfortunately is true.

I love Alpha Centauri! ...although irony of ironies, my computer is too powerful to play it anymore of all things. James says I'd need a special program to slow down the computer.

What classes do you have this semester? It seems strange to me that I'm not going back... I've been in school non-stop for more than 18 years...

I've had that. One of my favourite adventure games can only be run on a 486. It was created a short time before the Pentium. Even the programs that slow it won't work anymore :/

I only have CanLit this semester -- "Intertextuality in Canadian Literature," studying the connections between Canadian books, and between Canadian books and other famous works of literature.

:(

It's annoying. It's going to be hard to send material out, if I have to come downtown to do it. Less time to actually work on my writing, and to interact with friends.

There are no internet places near my house. The area's not commercial enough.

Don't you have a computer yourself, just no internet on it? You don't tell me you really have to wait till Matt is out of the house every time to work on your writing...

Aren't there any internet computers at university? At the uni library? Anything? >_>

Our university allows internet for academic purposes only, unless you want to wait in line for a long time on the 9th floor.

Right now, I'm on a friend's computer :/

Alpha Centuri is a truely amazing game. Ya i had to install a decelerator for X-COM UFO defense. I love some of my older games. Infact I had about 100 floppy disks worth up until this year when the disks became useless. I cried. Masters Of Magic was the most tradgic loss.

Should I be embarassed that my computer will run it without deceleration ;)

It's the world's most quotable video game. In addition to the brilliant real-world quotes, there are all the wonderful original ones. Things like, "What really transpires beneath the veil of an event horizon? Decent people shouldn't think too much about that." Or, "Beware of he who would demy you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."

The Gaian acolyte's prayer is also great.
