Politics, old and new

I've discovered the secret to getting my schoolwork one on time. Confuse the weeks.
On a related note, my project is due two weeks, not one week from now, so I am free for hanging-out time (apologizing here to both
em_fish and
foi_nefaste -- sorry about that).
Timothy Findley continues marvellous. We had a heated debate over the politics and the argument of the story, but it wasn't too spoiled for me by the time class was over. Not surprisingly, he had to take out a lot of libel insurance before putting it out -- since Wallis Simpson was still alive, and his portrayal of her and her husband, the former King Edward, is absolutely vicious. Without spoiling anything, I can say he has her scheming to climb over a pile of bodies to British throne.
Naturally, we were all wondering if it were true. A lot of the stuff Findley wrote in as fiction turned out to be fact after all, so maybe this was, too. I don't know enough about Simpson to tell.
The other news is that there's a federal election brewing. The writ is expected to be dropped very soon. Though it's probably my party that will force the election, and I agree with their reasons for doing it, I'm not looking forward to it. This is a very bad time of the year for a grad student to be involved in anything political :/
