It's a beautiful day out there. A soft, powdery snow has been coming down, and in places where here's been no snow clearing, it's very high. As I was walking past Phillips Square this morning on my way to work, the snow on one side of the trench was up to my chest.

We're also getting that white wind you get with powdery snow. Because it's carried so easily by wind, that kind of snow gets carried easily by the wind.

Speaking of ice, Iceland's got a new prime minister. She's the first openly lesbian leader of a country anywhere in the world, and the first openly homosexual world leader of a democratic country in modern times.

It seems appropriate to post the video for Icelandic band Sigur Rós's song "Viðrar vel til loftárása." Anyone who's seen the video will know why ^_^

For the first time, one of my letters was read on CBC. Nothing major -- just about three sentences (about Tom Lukiwski's homophobia) on the political program, The House.

(For anyone actually interested, the podcast is here. I'm somewhere between 40 min and 50 min in.)

Since I wrote that letter, I discovered another homophobic vote by Lukiwski just two years ago. I should also have mentioned that it was an "unwhipped" vote -- Lukiwski had the right to vote however he felt both times, without it affecting his career.
