Blessed Imbolc to those who celebrate it ^_^

Feels funny wishing everyone else a Happy Groundhog Day, though. It's not exactly celebrated.

Happy Wednesday?

You, too.

And let us hope for a better political weather by Imbolc next year :)

We just make up holidays whenever we need them. There's also this holiday calendar that has things like "Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day" and "Middle Name Pride Week". I'm going to make a calendar of all these events (which have actually been verified with the organizations that sponsor them--they're real) and celebrate them. It's a good excuse for extra champagne.

There used to be a poster with 365 Reasons to Party. I found the list reprinted here (http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=919759).

Sadly, it's very Americo-centric, and dangerously inaccurate. For example, for tomorrow it lists Thomas Crapper as the inventor of the flush toilet in 1837.

Thomas Crapper did not invent the flush toilet, merely popularized its use. And since he was born in 1836, it's highly unlikely he was inventing new technologies in 1837.

The first toilet of the modern west was made by John Harington in 1596. He called it the Ajax. But this first "john" was knocked down after he died. The toilet was reinvented by Alexander Cummings in 1775.

Seriously, with all these names, the jokes just write themselves.

Reason for "Crapper"

The only reason they put the "Crapper" myth on that list was so that people would have a reason to...*ahem*....POTTY!!! heheheh! :-)

Sorry, couldn't resist.
