Jul. 29th, 2007 06:07 amAnother update on my queer history journal. I'm finally done with the context-stuff, and I can move on now to tackle the subject of homosexuality in early English Canada more directly.
The LGBT community day was marvellous. The people who took over after Divers/Cité copped out did it so much better than Divers/Cité that I hope they handle it every year. They're organizing the parade tomorrow, so it'll probably be better than previous years.
Not only was the community day fun, we had a marvellous rain storm in the middle of it. It was pelting. I went out in it. It didn't last long, but it broke the miserable heat of the last few days ^_^

Date: 2007-07-29 11:45 am (UTC)Hey, I remember those! I think I found them while going through my mother's terribly un-sorted collection of fantasy novels when I was about ten. I just saw them for sale again in one of our local bookstores, in fact; the release of HP7 seems to have once again headed a wave of YA fantasy.
I'm still prodding at your research requests, by the by. Our campus library closes obscenely early in the summer, and lately I've been getting off work too late to bother the reference desk. I should be going down there on Monday to scare up a copy of the Kinsey Report that I know they have; if I manage to get someone who can locate their own backside with both hands and a map, I'll take a stab at getting access to some of the online legal archives the university subscribes to.

Date: 2007-07-29 10:48 pm (UTC)As for the Grey King, I think it's aged well. I read it in grade 7, and it's still satisfying.
One thing that astonishes me is the existence of online fandoms for minor fantasy series that existed pre-internet. I'm not startled at Lord of the Rings -- it was always the biggest, and the movies revived interest in it.
But YAOI-style Dragonlance fanart threw me (though pleasantly). Chibi Raistlin? Bishounen Raistlin? And there;'s fanfic for the Dark is Rising series! I didn't think it possible!
I guess I just assumed that only series popular post-internet would develop those kind of internet fandoms.

Date: 2007-07-29 02:59 pm (UTC)The rain was nice (so much better than this crazy, humid heat) but we were carrying too many books and posters to go out into it. ^_^
