Marched in the Pride parade again. Haven't missed marching in about a decade, I think, though it terrifies me being at the centre of such a large crowd. I hold on tightly to my banner and don't let go, and it's okay.

But it's still important. And it's still something deeply important to me.

Yesterday, I tabled for the New Democratic Party at community day. We were visited by Jack Layton (leader of the party) and Olivia Chow (our immigration critic). I'd met them before, but they actually hung out awhile. I helped Olivia put up banners.

It was tiring - I've had next to no sleep this week. But it was nice to be part of it again, and tired as I am, I am sad to see it gone so fast.

Also, the rain held off until the parade was over, so it was a rainless parade again. Clearly Mother Nature is on our side :)

I've been quite silent this week. I'm working lots of extra hours, and have been on my feet a lot otherwise. There are currently five cats in my care, instead of the usual two. I had blisters for the first time in years. I marched in a second pride parade (Ottawa) this week with beblistered feet.

(Which was fun, in spite. The rain held off, and the crowd was better. And as [livejournal.com profile] montrealais points out, that one guy who's there every year with the big sign quoting Leviticus gets sadder and lonelier every year. I got to carry a flag.)

There was also a wonderful Pet Shop Boys concert. I was close enough to see Neil Tennant's white hair, but everyone was packed in so close in the pit that I dancing on tiptoes. But it was visually amazing. No one puts on a show like them -- amazing props, dancing, visuals. Of course, since most of my favourite musicians have the piano as their instrument of choice, dancing is a little impossible for them.

I haven't time for anything else, except writing. I'm trying to balance full-time writing with full-time work. I'm still on schedule for sending this monster of a novel out before the end of the month, which remains my goal.

(Though it means stuff like editing 19 pages - one-tenth of the novel - before I go to work, which I did this morning.)

Once I'm done the novel, I'll start sending it out to the big publishing houses first, and get to work on material for the CBC literary awards. I want to enter both their poetry and prose sections this year.

I've also been reading a lot as I move from place to place - Douglas Coupland, Émile Nelligan, Elsa Gidlow. But I'll have to save that for a future entry.

So for anyone who isn't aware, I'll be in BC from this Saturday to the Sunday of the following weekend. I might detour to Vancouver at some point, but I'll be staying mostly around Victoria area.

The last few days I've been mostly making preparations -- including a few shopping trips. I used the trip as an excuse to buy new clothes, which I've needed due to wear-and-tear, and because I've gone down several waist sizes this year. Maybe I'll be able to fit my kilt at Pride.

Other than that, I've been working heavily on my preliminary edit of the novel. I'm nearly 70% done. I want to finished -- and ready for the big edit -- by the time I go to BC.

Another post to my historical journal, this one about Alexander Wood.

This is my first time doing research on a figure who's already been extensively covered -- most of the others have been pretty obscure.

The pride parade was fantastic this year, even if it got started late. The new group that's taken over the events really knows what it's doing. After marching, we went up to the top floor of Drugstore (right below the open-air area, a cool, quiet little area no one in the overcrowded Village had discovered. It was nice ^_^

Another update on my queer history journal. I'm finally done with the context-stuff, and I can move on now to tackle the subject of homosexuality in early English Canada more directly.

The LGBT community day was marvellous. The people who took over after Divers/Cité copped out did it so much better than Divers/Cité that I hope they handle it every year. They're organizing the parade tomorrow, so it'll probably be better than previous years.

Not only was the community day fun, we had a marvellous rain storm in the middle of it. It was pelting. I went out in it. It didn't last long, but it broke the miserable heat of the last few days ^_^
