Another update on my queer history journal. I'm finally done with the context-stuff, and I can move on now to tackle the subject of homosexuality in early English Canada more directly.

The LGBT community day was marvellous. The people who took over after Divers/Cité copped out did it so much better than Divers/Cité that I hope they handle it every year. They're organizing the parade tomorrow, so it'll probably be better than previous years.

Not only was the community day fun, we had a marvellous rain storm in the middle of it. It was pelting. I went out in it. It didn't last long, but it broke the miserable heat of the last few days ^_^

Sorry for being dead to LJ the last ten days or so -- I've been quite busy.

My list came in for the English Literature comprehensives. I have about a hundred works to read or re-read before September 8. Some of these "texts" are short as sonnets, others are novels hundreds and hundreds of pages long.

I've been reading Everyman today, a late-medieval morality play. It actually calls itself a "Moralitee Playe" right on the first page -- it's funny to see that announced as anything other than a joke.

(There's a scene in it where Everyman is having a conversation with his worldy possessions, especially his gold. How do you stage that? I picture a talking treasure chest.)

The summer storm we had on Thursday was the best ever -- I've never seen lightning like that. We lost power for seven hours, but it wasn't so bad, and lucky [livejournal.com profile] montrealais loaned m his cellphone sho I had an alarm clock for work early the next day. The power came on just as I was leaving the house.

And editting continues, at least when we've had electricity :)

I keep thinking it's a special day of some sort, but I can't put my finger on it. October 14 -- seems familiar. I know it was 39 years to the day that the Montreal metro was inaugurated. And 424 years after a day which did not take place, thanks to a certain pope.

Nope, can't put my finger on it.

But if I've forgotten anyone's birthday, do forgive me :p

I have barely left the house for three days, allowing myself recovery time. I wrote (of course), cleaned, played video games, poked through old journals.

I am re-reading Alias Grace for a class, and though I like the book, I'm not rushing myself; I've read it before. I did get my diabetes test yesterday, but it'll be some time before I have the results (two weeks maximum -- they'll call). Landlord has rent money, so that is well as well.

There is a lovely rainstorm outside. I'm quite enjoying it.

Yes, it's [livejournal.com profile] montrealais's birthday today. Happy Birthday!
